(August 13, 2010) – On Sunday, August 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close one lane on westbound US 40 (Dual Highway) in Washington County.  The closure is part of SHA’s project to improve the intersection on US 40 at Edgewood Drive which should be completed later this year, weather permitting.

SHA will temporarily close the right lane on westbound US 40 between the Susquehanna Bank office and just west of Denny’s Restaurant beginning Sunday at 9 p.m.  SHA will reopen the lane no later than 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.  The temporary closure will allow construction crews to pave the newly constructed third lane.

SHA extended working hours to allow crews to complete the work in the shortest time possible, minimizing inconvenience to adjacent business and homes.  Access to businesses and homes will be maintained throughout construction.  Approximately 35,000 vehicles travel along this section of US 40 each day.

SHA awarded the contract to Pessoa Construction Inc. of Fairmount Heights.  Customers who have questions about traffic operations on US 40 or other State numbered routes in Washington County, may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  Choose Safety for Life and make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
