(February 1, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will continue repairs on the southbound MD 2 (Ritchie Highway) ramp to westbound MD 100 (Paul T. Pitcher Highway) in Anne Arundel County.

Starting Monday, February 6 at 9 a.m. SHA will close the ramp for approximately one week to complete the second phase of the three phase project.  The work next week will require crews to move equipment and concrete walls to the right side of the ramp and install underground sheet piling to retain excavation for the final phase of the project.

During the repairs, drivers will use southbound MD 2 to MD 177 (Mountain Road), then bear right to continue on westbound MD 100.  Following Tropical Storm Lee nearly 180 feet of underground drainage pipe collapsed during heavy flooding.  Last fall, crews worked to replace the original pipe culvert with a new structure under the ramp.  SHA installed and secured the new pipe and opened the ramp to traffic in mid-December.

The $1.5 million repair is funded by federal dollars recently provided to Maryland from the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Emergency Relief Program.  The program funding has helped to repair roads and bridges damaged during Tropical Storm Lee.  The work is being performed by SHA’s areawide contractor PDI Sheetz.  SHA expects to have another three day closure in late March to remove all equipment from the work site.
