(July 26, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is resurfacing a two-mile section of US 50 (Ocean Gateway) near Easton beginning Monday, August 1.  The milling and repaving work between Idlewild Avenue and Schwaninger Road will improve ride quality along this section of US 50.

Both directions of US 50 will be milled, resurfaced and re-striped as part of the project.

To minimize traffic and business impacts, crews will work weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.  No work will be performed on Fridays to accommodate the more than 31,000 motorists who use US 50 each day.  Motorists traveling during these times should expect single lane closures with a flagging operation to guide them through the work zone.

Weather permitting, SHA expects to complete this project by the end of September.  Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on US 50 or other State numbered routes in Talbot County may call SHA’s District 2 Office at 410-810-3200 or toll free at 1-800-637-9740.  Citizens are also encouraged to follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.  SHA awarded the $1.3 million contract to David A. Bramble of Chestertown.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
