(July 25, 2011) – Beginning today, July 25, the State Highway Administration (SHA) is cleaning and repairing underground pipes that carry a tributary of Dead Run underneath I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) at Exit 17, MD 122 (Security Boulevard) in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County.

During construction work, there will be shoulder closures along I-695 and traffic shifts along the ramps to and from Security Boulevard between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday – Friday and 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday, to allow equipment and crews to move safely through the work zone.

Starting Wednesday, July 27 weather permitting, SHA will clean and repair underground pipes carrying a tributary of Herbert Run underneath US 1 (Southwestern Boulevard) between the Halethorpe MARC station and US 1 Alternate (Washington Boulevard).

During construction work, there will be shoulder closures along US 1 between south of the MARC station and US 1 Alt. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday – Friday and between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday.

Both pipe system repair projects will continue through early fall, weather permitting.  This work is part of a $1.8 million project to clean and repair SHA’s underground pipe systems statewide to keep adequate structurally integrity of the systems.  SHA’s contractor is Marine Technologies Inc., of Baltimore.

Citizens with questions about the project may contact the District 4 Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by email at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
