(June 23, 2011) – Beginning tomorrow, June 24, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing MD 309 (Cordova Road) from Dukes Bridge Road to one-half mile north of MD 303 (Tappers Corner Road) in Cordova.  Work includes patching, asphalt overlay and restriping.  SHA expects this project to continue until June 30, weather permitting.  Work hours will be weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Motorists should expect single lane closures on MD 309 during construction.  A flagging operation will be in place to guide motorists around the work area.

Approximately 4,100 vehicles travel this portion of MD 309 each day.  SHA awarded the $235,000 contract to David A. Bramble of Chestertown.

SHA reminds motorists to plan ahead and check travel conditions including live traffic cameras and lane closure updates at www.chart.maryland.gov.  Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
