Motorists Should Expect Delays during Resurfacing; Project Possible due to ARRA Funding          
          
(April 7, 2009) –Last week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began a resurfacing project along southbound US 13 (Ocean Highway) between the Wicomico County line and north of MD 675 (Somerset Highway) in Princess Anne, Somerset County. Weather permitting, the project will be complete by the end of April.           
          
An additional resurfacing project will begin later this spring along nearly three miles of MD 388 (West Post Office Road) between MD 675 (Somerset Avenue) and east of Palmetto Church Road. This project will be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.          
          
Motorists should expect single lane closures on the US 13 project, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. SHA will use traffic flaggers, barrels, dynamic message signs and safety signs to guide drivers through the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter delays during lane closures.          
          
This project is funded using $2.3 million of President Barack Obama’s landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. Projects such as these will stimulate Maryland’s economy by preserving or maintaining Maryland jobs.          
          
These projects are part of an areawide contract awarded to American Paving Corporation of Eden, Md.
