Northbound Traffic May Be Detoured on Forestville Road During in Summer 2010; Meeting Attendance is Strongly Encouraged

Who: State Highway Administration (SHA) representatives
Andrews Air Force Base representatives and officials (Invited)
Prince George’s County officials (Invited)
Area motorists, community organizations, businesses, residents and officials

What: Next summer, SHA will upgrade the bridge deck (riding surface) on the 45-year old bridge over the Capital Beltway, which may involve temporary closure of a portion of the Forestville Road Bridge. SHA’s preferred traffic operations alternative is to detour northbound traffic and maintain southbound traffic during construction. Displays depicting the operational and safety improvements during construction will be available for review and SHA representatives will be available to answer questions.

When: Thursday, April 9, 2009 between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Where: Forestville Military Academy Cafetorium
700 Beltz Drive, Forestville, MD 20747

Why: Originally constructed in 1964, the Forestville Road Bridge is structurally sound, yet has begun to show signs of deterioration. Given its high traffic volume and the need to improve pedestrian and cyclist access, the bridge will undergo rehabilitation in spring 2010 for approximately five months. With a possibility of a traffic detour during construction, meeting attendance is strongly encouraged. Those who are interested in the project and are unable to attend the meeting may contact SHA’s Office of Structures at 1-888-375-1084.
