(March 17, 2011) - The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a $977,000 project to repair and resurface pavement along Monkton Road (MD 138) between York Road (MD 45) and the Gunpowder Falls Bridge in northern Baltimore County.

Starting today, crews will patch, “mill” (remove the top layer) and resurface approximately three and one-half miles of  pavement along MD 138, with lane closures permitted at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays and between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.  SHA advises motorists to plan ahead for extra travel time along MD 138 from Hereford to Monkton and the Torrey C. Brown (NCR) Rail Trail access point in Monkton.  

The MD 138 resurfacing project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  This project, together with other ARRA projects, is stimulating Maryland’s economy by preserving jobs.  The State’s contractor for the resurfacing project is Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, Md.  Weather permitting, the project will be complete mid-May.
