(January 7, 2011) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin temporary weekday single lane closures along eastbound and westbound US 40 at the Baltimore/Howard county line beginning after  9 a.m. Wednesday, January 12.   SHA is doing this work to prepare for the upcoming project to rehabilitate the US 40 bridge over the Patapsco River, built in 1936.  The overall bridge project is scheduled to begin this spring.

Single lane closures may occur at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The temporary lane closures will allow crews to move equipment safely in and out of the bridge area.  Preliminary work includes building the temporary construction access road along eastbound US 40 just east of the bridge.

Citizens who have questions about US 40 or any other State numbered roadway in Baltimore County should call SHA’s District 4 office at 410-229-2300 or toll free at 1-866-998-0367.  Citizens in Howard County may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll free at 1-800-635-5119.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.  Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life Campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
