(December 7, 2010)  As part of the State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Intercounty Connector (ICC) project, construction crews are temporarily closing all four lanes of northbound I-270 between MD 28 (Montgomery Avenue, exit 6) and Shady Grove Road (exit 8) for brief 15-minute intervals late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning between midnight and 4 a.m. to install an overhead sign.

Crews will close one lane at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, December 8; two lanes will close by 11 p.m. with total 15 minute closures of the general use lanes permitted between midnight and 4 a.m., December 9.  The local lanes will remain open during the 15-minute closures.  SHA recommends MD 355 as an alternate during the brief closures.

The sign installation is part of the Contract A section of the ICC from I-370 to east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue).   Contract A is scheduled to open early 2011.

SHA reminds motorists to: “Think Orange” as they drive through the work zone, reduce speeds and be attentive.  For more information about the project, citizens may call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020.
