(December 9, 2010) -- As part of the State Highway Administration’s (SHA) project to widen and reconfigure the I-95 ramps to westbound I-695 in southwestern Baltimore County, construction crews will temporarily close all lanes of southbound I-95 between Caton Avenue (exit 50) and I-695 (exit 49) for brief 15-minute intervals tonight into early Friday morning between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. to install a large overhead sign for the new traffic pattern.

Crews will close one lane at 7 p.m.; two lanes will close by 9 p.m. with total 15-minute closures of southbound I-95 permitted between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. tomorrow morning.  Additionally, the ramps from southbound I-95 to east and westbound I-695 will also be temporarily closed as the overhead sign structure is hung. SHA recommends using Caton Avenue to Wilkens Avenue or Washington Boulevard to I-695 as alternate routes.

The project provides an additional lane along the ramp from southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway), and a dedicated lane on the ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695 to reduce congestion on the ramps during the morning and evening peak travel periods.

The State’s contractor for the project is Pessoa Construction, Inc. of Fairmount Heights, Maryland.   Citizens with questions about this project may contact SHA’s District Four Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367, or by e-mail at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us
