(December 8, 2010) – After morning rush hour on Thursday December 9, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will remove the temporary detour of eastbound traffic on MD 140 (Baltimore Boulevard) through Taneytown.

Eastbound MD 140 traffic was temporarily detoured in 2008, redirecting motorists to Trevanion Road to Antrim Boulevard and back to MD 140.  The detour allowed crews to reconstruct both lanes of MD 140 between the town square and Antrim Boulevard.

A temporary traffic signal was installed at the Trevanion Road / Antrim Boulevard intersection to assist with traffic flow.  Crews will switch the signal to “flash mode” on Thursday; motorists traveling on Trevanion Road will have a yellow flashing light notifying them to proceed with caution through the intersection.

Motorists traveling south on Antrim Boulevard will have a red flashing beacon requiring them to stop before proceeding through the intersection. It will be switched back to full color operation in spring 2011, facilitating the detour for final resurfacing.

The $18 million streetscape project is providing improvements on nearly two miles along MD 140 through Taneytown.  Those who have questions about MD 140 traffic operations or other State numbered routes in Carroll County, may call SHA’s District 7 Office toll free at 1-800-635-5119.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
