Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays

(April 24, 2009) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing along MD 20 (Chestertown Road) between Old Fairlee Road and MD 446 (Broad Neck Road) in Chestertown, Kent County. Weather permitting, repairs will be complete by early summer.

SHA will conduct single lane closure operations to patch and resurface three miles along MD 20. Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, as they may encounter delays. To guide motorists through the work zone, SHA will use traffic flaggers, cones, electronic variable message signs and safety signs.

SHA awarded the $585,000 contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown. Citizens who have questions about MD 20 or any other State numbered roadway in Kent County should call SHA’s District 2 office at 410.778.3061 or toll-free at 1.800.637.9740.

As temperatures begin to rise over the next several months, work zones will be an increasingly familiar sight along state and local roadways. SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly, Choose Safety for Life and “Think Orange,” which is the color of construction signs and warning devices. While driving through highway work zones, protect our workers, as well as yourself and your passengers by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
