Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays during Construction

(April 29, 2009) – Last week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began a resurfacing project along the northbound US 13 Bypass (Salisbury Bypass) from MD 12 (Snow Hill Road) to MD 350 (Mount Hermon Road) in Wicomico County. Weather permitting, the project will be completed by mid-June. A similar project along southbound US 13 Bypass between US 13 Business and Mount Hermon Road will begin next week.

During construction on this two and one-half-mile section of the US 13 Bypass, motorists can expect single lane closures Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. through late May. To accommodate heavier summer traffic from mid-May until completion in mid-June, SHA will work Tuesday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Mondays between noon and 3 p.m.; and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. SHA will use arrow boards, traffic cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, as they may encounter delays during lane closure, or use alternate routes.

SHA awarded the $950,000 contract was awarded to American Paving Corporation of Eden. Citizens who have questions about these projects or any other State numbered roadway in Wicomico County should call SHA’s District 1 office at 410-677-4000 or toll free at 1-800-825-4742.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly, focus, obey the posted speed, and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
