(September 22, 2010) – Today, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close Ridgely Road south of MD 404 (Shore Highway) and MD 480 near Hillsboro for drainage improvement work.

The closure is expected to last approximately two weeks as crews install three stormwater management pipes across Ridgely Road.

SHA will detour sign traffic around the work zone,  This work is not expected to significantly impact MD 404 traffic.
• Motorists traveling west on MD 404 (from Denton), should turn left onto MD 404-Alternate (prior to the MD 480 intersection), then turn right onto Ridgely Road.
• Motorists traveling east on MD 404 or south on MD 480 should continue east on        MD 404 (past the MD 480 intersection), then turn right onto MD 404-Alternate then turn right onto Ridgely Road, a detour of approximately 2.5 miles from the MD 404/MD 480 intersection.
This work is part of the project to upgrade MD 404 to a dual highway from just east of Tuckahoe Creek to east of MD 480, a total of 1.1 miles.

This project is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).  Statewide, ARRA-funded projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by preserving thousands of jobs. They are producing long-term cost savings by extending roadway service life, while improving safety and ride quality.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at ww.choosesafetyforlife.com.
