(September 23, 2010) – On Sunday night, September 26, and Monday night, September 27, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close and detour the ramps from I-95 northbound and southbound to the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway. The temporary overnight closures will occur between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Motorists traveling along I-95 going to westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) can expect the following detour:  Eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) to I-695 Exit 9, Hollins Ferry Road and back to the Inner Loop of the Beltway.  On or about 7 p.m. Monday, September 27, SHA will permanently close the right lane along westbound I-695, reducing the number of lanes from three to two within the I-95 interchange area.  In case of inclement weather, the temporary overnight ramp closures will take place the next possible weeknight.

During the next month, SHA and the contractor will complete the new left lane along the ramp from northbound and southbound I-95 to westbound I-695.  The new ramp lane will be opened to traffic late October, weather permitting.

SHA will continue to temporarily close ramps and lanes along southbound I-95 and the Inner Loop of the Beltway as the project nears completion.  These temporary closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

When complete, this project will provide a new left lane along the ramp from southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (Baltimore Beltway), with a dedicated lane on the ramp from I-95 northbound to the Inner Loop of the Beltway.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.  Learn more about work zone safety and Maryland’s Choose Safety for Life campaign at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
