(September 21, 2010) -- As part of the construction of the State’s $2.5 billion Intercounty Connector (ICC) project, crews will temporarily close all four lanes of southbound  I-270  south of exit #10 (Diamond Avenue) for two brief 15-minute intervals between midnight and 4 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, weather permitting.  The closures are necessary to erect an overhead sign structure.  In the event of rain, work will occur early morning Monday, September 27.  The work is part of the Contract A section of the ICC from I-370 to east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue).     

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) encourages motorists to consider alternate routes such as MD 355, though no detours will be posted as traffic volumes are generally light between midnight and 4 a.m.  Concrete barriers, temporary crash cushions, barrels, temporary traffic signs and the electronic message signs will alert and guide motorists through the work zone.

As of September 1, Contract A is 85 percent complete and scheduled to open late 2010/early 2011.

Intercounty Constructors, a joint venture of Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA, Corman Construction of Annapolis Junction, MD and G.A & F.C. Wagman of York, PA   is the contractor for the $475 million Contract A segment.
