(August 13, 2010) – Next week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $520,000 roadway patching project on MD 8 (Romancoke Road) in Queen Anne’s County.  Work will begin on or about August 17 and repairs will be complete by early September, weather permitting.

SHA will patch and repair sections of pavement along two miles of MD 8 between Kent Point Road and Kentmorr Road.  Construction will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Traffic will be directed via a flagging operation.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as they may encounter delays during lane closure or use alternate routes. Flagpersons, barrels, variable message signs and other signs will alert drivers of the work zone.

SHA awarded the contract to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown, Md.  Those who have questions about MD 8 or any other State numbered roadway in Queen Anne’s County may call SHA’s District 2 office at 410-778-3061 or toll free at 1-800-637-9740.

This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.

SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times. Learn more about work zone safety and the Choose Safety for Life campaign at ww.choosesafetyforlife.com.
