(July 20, 2010) – Tomorrow, July 21, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will replace the traffic gate and gate box on the Talbot County side of the Dover Bridge (MD 331).  The gates and gate boxes are the mechanisms that halt vehicular traffic while the bridge swings open to allow boats to pass. Work will begin with no impact to traffic at 6 a.m.  After 9 a.m., SHA will periodically stop all traffic temporarily to install the new gate and gate box.  Weather permitting, the new gates will be installed by 3 p.m.

Motorists can expect brief 10-15 minute closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  SHA will provide drums, and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.  The State’s contractor for the gate replacement project is Covington Machinery of Annapolis.

When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose Safety for Life and make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.

SHA thanks the residents for their patience and cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience that the brief, temporary closures may cause.  For more information on the repair, call the SHA District 2 office at 410-810-3250 or 1-800-637-9740.  To see a listing of major SHA projects across the State and receive real-time traffic information, log onto roads.maryland.gov and click “Road Ready.”
