(July 16, 2010) – Beginning Sunday night, July 18 the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $1.3 million resurfacing project along US 50 between MD 179 (St. Margaret’s Road) and Whitehall Road just west of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Anne Arundel County.

All work is scheduled during nighttime hours Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 5 am.  Motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures.

Approximately two miles of US 50 are included in this project, which is part of a larger $7.6 million areawide resurfacing contract funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).  SHA awarded the contract to Reliable Contracting of Millersville.

Nearly 70,000 vehicles per day travel this section of US 50, with substantially higher volumes during peak summer travel time.  SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through highway work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
