(July 14, 2010) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) has re-opened southbound MD 45 (York Road) at the bridge over Western Run for daytime travelers one month ahead of schedule.

SHA will close and detour traffic along the York Road Bridge over Western Run to pave the bridge approach tonight, July 14 and Thursday night, July 15.  SHA will close the road again on Sunday night, July 18 until Monday morning, July 19 to remove construction equipment.  During the nighttime closures, both lanes of York Road at the bridge will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning.  In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed on the next possible weeknight.

Nighttime travelers will be directed to use a posted detour route which includes Shawan Road,  I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) and Belfast Road.  SHA will also use variable message signs, detour signs, concrete barriers and cones to guide motorists through the work zone.  The $275,000 bridge project should be completed by late-July, weather permitting.  The State’s contractor for the project is PDI Sheetz Construction of Baltimore.

SHA reminds motorists that when workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices.  Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.  Choose safety for life and make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com
