(July 15, 2010) - On or about Monday July 19, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will activate temporary traffic signals at the Ridge Road bridge over MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway), weather permitting.

The signals are located at each end of the bridge and will alternate traffic across one lane during construction.  SHA will replace half of each bridge deck (one lane), then switch traffic onto the new lane while the second half of the deck is replaced.  Located near Patapsco Valley State Park, these bridges were originally constructed in 1950 and carry nearly 1,100 vehicles per day.

The deck replacements are part of a $1.2 million project to rehabilitate the two bridges over MD 295.  Work also includes replacement of bridge parapets, removal of the existing stone façade, cleaning and repainting the steel structure and repaving the bridge approaches.

During the next several months, there could be more than 350 highway work zones throughout Maryland, including smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. Choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
