(May 14, 2010) – Beginning Monday night May 17, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will install new drainage pipes below lanes of MD 404 (Shore Highway) just west of Denton in Caroline County.  This work will require temporary closures of MD 404 in both directions between MD 312 (Downes Station Road) and MD 480 (Ridgely Road) each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning.  Work is scheduled through Friday, May 21, weather permitting.

SHA will use signs, flagpersons, cones and barrels to guide motorists along the detour.  Motorists traveling west on MD 404 will turn right on MD 312, left on MD 480, then right on MD 404.  Motorists traveling east on MD 404 will turn left on MD 480, right on MD 312, and left on MD 404.  Trucks and passenger vehicles will use the same detour route.  Estimated travel time through the detour is less than five minutes.

Motorists traveling MD 404 can expect daytime flagging operations and single lane closures between MD 312 and MD 480 as SHA prepares for the nighttime pipe crossing work.  The drainage improvement work is part of the $7 million construction project to widen one-mile of MD 404 from Tuckahoe Road to MD 480.

This project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, bringing critically needed transportation investments to Maryland.  Projects such as these are stimulating Maryland’s economy by supporting hundreds of jobs.  Follow the delivery of these projects at www.recovery.maryland.gov, which tracks every category of ARRA spending and provides contract-level details to the public in an effort to achieve new levels of government transparency and efficiency.
