Additional Safety Measures Implemented; Public Invited to October 20 Meeting to Discuss Operations and Long-Term Improvements
(October 9, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) will reopen the MD 405/US 301 median crossover in the Price area of Queen Anne’s County on Monday, October 13. The reopening follows safety-driven improvements including:
- new audible “rumble strips” on both directions of US 301 prior to the MD 405 intersection;
- additional channelization on MD 405 west at US 301 south to turn vehicles slightly and improve visibility;
- additional tree trimming in the US 301 median;
- creation of a mandatory headlight use area on US 301 approaching the MD 405 intersection; and
- placement of digital speed display signs on US 301 to alert drivers to their actual speed approaching the MD 405 intersection.
The State Highway Administration closed the crossover in late July to evaluate roadway conditions following two fatal crashes in one week. With the reopening, drivers on US 301 are urged to use headlights and stay alert for cross traffic at the intersection. Drivers on MD 405 must come to a complete stop and look for oncoming traffic before crossing US 301.
Additionally, the State Highway Administration will hold a public meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, October 20, to discuss safety, driver behavior, and long-term improvements at the MD 405/US 301 intersection. The meeting will be held at the Price Community Center, 121 Rabbit Hill Road, Church Hill. Area residents and commuters are encouraged to attend.
The Maryland Department of Transportation is Serious About Safety, pursuing a department-wide commitment to advance improvements and initiatives that drive safety goals and save lives. SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, avoid distractions and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
