Overnight Project will Repair Depressions on Busy Stretch of Roadway
(October 16, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will repair depressions and cracks on eastbound I-70 between the I-270 overpass and the overpass on New Design Road, a quarter-mile span, in Frederick County.
Starting Tuesday, October 17, at 9 p.m., crews will close the right lane to begin the project. The work requires a single-lane and shoulder closures during overnight work hours. The schedule is Sunday night through Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.
This project includes repairs to the southbound I-270 merge lane on the left lane of eastbound I-70. The ramp will be closed during overnight work. Motorists on southbound I-270 will take Exit 31A onto northbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) to access eastbound I-70.
The project includes repairs to the eastbound I-70 exit lane onto MD 144 (Old National Pike) at Exit 56.
The contractor, F.O. Day, Company based in Rockville, will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the closures and guide them through the work zone and detour routes.
The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
