Drivers Urged to Take MD 45 (York Road) and MD 25 (Falls Road) As Alternate Routes This Afternoon and Evening
(October 16, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is temporarily closing the right lane and ramps along northbound I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) at the Shawan Road interchange now through this evening due to emergency repairs to the driving surface.
Engineers are on the bridge now to evaluate and begin bridge deck repairs, and have closed the following lanes and ramps at the interchange:
- Northbound I-83: right lane closed, left lane open
- Ramps from northbound I-83 to westbound and eastbound Shawan Road
- Ramp from eastbound Shawan Road to northbound I-83
The State Highway Administration urges drivers to use MD 45 (York Road) and MD 25 (Falls Road) as alternative routes to I-83 if traveling between I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to Hunt Valley and northern Baltimore County until further notice.
The State Highway Administration understands bridge work can be an inconvenience but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
Customers may contact the State Highway Administration District 4 Office – Maintenance Division at 410-229-2300 or toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 for additional information.
