Motorists Should Plan for Extra Travel Time between Belcamp and Aberdeen

(August 22, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is extending working hours and lane closure times this week for the project to rehabilitate the two-lane MD 7 (Philadelphia Road) bridge over Grays Run near Aberdeen in Harford County. This temporary change will enable contractor crews to expedite bridge work and reduce the need for lane closures at the start of the school year.

Beginning 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, motorists can expect 24-hour lane closures on the bridge with flagging operations to control two-way traffic on MD 7 through 5 a.m. Saturday, August 26.  Motorists traveling between Belcamp and Aberdeen may consider alternate routes such as US 40 (Pulaski Highway) or I-95 (John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway). The bridge, located on MD 7 between Holly Oak Circle and South Stepney Road, will remain open during the work.

The work is part of the State Highway Administration’s bridge system preservation program and includes rehabilitation of the bridge deck, replacement of the parapets and installation of new guardrail on both roadway approaches to the bridge.  Weather permitting, this $420,000 bridge project will be complete by fall.

The State Highway Administration understands temporary lane closures and flagging operations can be an inconvenience, but this work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.

Contractor Marksmen Company of Baltimore is performing the work. Customers with questions may call the State Highway Administration Office of Structures – Structures Remedial Engineering Division at 410-545-8309.
