Drivers Can Expect Overnight Single-Lane Closures

(August 18, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin two projects to repair concrete bridge decks on the I-70 bridge over Harmony Road and the I-270 bridge over Baker Valley Road in Frederick County beginning Sunday, August 20. Both bridge deck improvement projects should be complete by the first week of September, weather permitting.

The concrete repairs will greatly improve the ride quality for the tens of thousands of motorists who travel over these bridges each day. Drivers can expect single-lane closures Sundays through Thursdays 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, PDI Sheetz Construction of Linthicum, will use VMS boards, signs, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. The State Highway Administration understands temporary ramp and lane closures can be an inconvenience, but this work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system.

Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.

Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
