(April 20 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project this month to rehabilitate the MD 75 (Green Valley Road) bridge over I-70 in New Market, Frederick County. The four-lane bridge was originally built in 1971 and needs to be replaced. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2023.

“The MD 75 bridge over I-70 is a critical connection for the community, for commuters and for commerce,” said MDOT Secretary James F. Ports, Jr. “We appreciate the collaboration of our partners in Frederick County and New Market as we planned for this project, which will create jobs and strengthen our highway network.”

This $4.7 million project includes bridge deck replacement, painting and repairs to concrete supports. MDOT SHA will maintain two-way traffic on the bridge, with at least one lane open in the northbound and southbound directions. Traffic impacts on I-70 for demolition work will be restricted to overnight hours, and MDOT SHA will send traffic alerts to the public prior to any traffic interruptions on I-70.

“Maintaining our transportation system in a state of good repair for customers is a top priority,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Tim Smith. “People rely on this bridge every day to travel through eastern Frederick County and to the growing Town of New Market. This work will help ensure the bridge remains safe for many years to come.”

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
