STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE SECTION OF MD 54 EAST OF MARDELA SPRINGS ON NOVEMBER 4

Off-Peak Closure Necessary to Perform Minor Repairs to Delmar Road Bridge over Mockingbird Creek; Access to Mardela Schools to Remain Open for Election Day           
          
(October 30, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration’s (SHA) will next week temporarily close MD 54 (Delmar Road) east of Mardela Springs to make minor repairs to the MD 54 Bridge over Mockingbird Creek. The road will be closed on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.           
          
Motorists along eastbound MD 54 heading toward Delmar will be directed to a left onto Norris Twilley Road to a right onto May Twilley Road to a right onto Delaware Route 513 (Columbia Road) and back to MD 54. Motorists along westbound MD 54 will be directed to a left onto Old Railroad Road to a right on US 50 back to MD 54.           
          
The closure is being done on Election Day to minimize impacts to local school bus traffic. Access to local polling places at Mardela Middle School and Mardela High School will remain open and accessible.           
          
The closure is necessary for bridge crews to make minor repairs to the bridge. The $15,000 project will be done by PDI Sheets, Inc. SHA and the contractor appreciate your patience during the project and advise motorists to plan for extra travel time through the work zone.
