(November 20, 2012) –The State Highway Administration (SHA) is starting a resurfacing project in Cecil County on US 40 (Pulaski Highway) from the bridge over Big Elk Creek to the Delaware State Line. The overlay project begins Tuesday, Nov. 27 and will be complete in summer 2013, weather permitting.

The project includes replacing three pipe culverts to improve the flow of stormwater along US 40, new concrete curb and gutter, as well as  median repairs. The pedestrian walkways will be contructed to appear as brick to facilitate designated pedestrian crossings on US 40.

All construction on the project is scheduled to be completed during nighttime Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. with  crews implementing single lane closures during those hours.  No roadwork will be conducted from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

SHA will use variable message boards, temporary signs, cones, drums and flaggers to guide motorists through the work zone.  SHA’s contractor for the $3 million project is Daisy Concrete, Inc. of MD.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safe driving. Safe work zones.  For everyone!
