(November 9, 2012) – On Sunday night, November 11, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close up to three lanes on northbound I-95 (Capital Beltway) on the bridge over MD 214 (Central Avenue) in Largo, Prince George’s County.  SHA will resurface the outer loop (northbound I-95) side, and then move to the inner loop (southbound I-95) side to complete the project within two weeks, weather permitting.

SHA will close one lane at 9 p.m., two lanes at 10 p.m., and three lanes at midnight to resurface the existing pavement. All lanes will be open to traffic Monday by 5 a.m.

The work is part of a $125,000 bridge deck resurfacing project. More than 205,000 vehicles travel over Central Avenue along the Capital Beltway each day. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead or seek alternate routes such as MD 193 (University Boulevard) to avoid construction-related delays.

SHA will use electronic message boards, construction cones, barrels, and arrow boards to direct motorists through the work zone. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
