(June 18, 2009) As part of the Maryland State Highway Administration’s (SHA) $2.5 billion Intercounty Connector (ICC) project, crews will shift lanes along I-370 near Shady Grove Road on Saturday morning, June 20 beginning at 5 a.m., weather permitting. The temporary re-alignment of I-370 will allow for continued ICC bridge construction. The shift should be in place by late Saturday evening.

SHA will shift more than 3,000 feet of westbound I-370 between the Shady Grove Road overpass and the I-370 Bridge over the CSX. The construction speed limit throughout the lane shift will be 40 miles per hour.

The work is part of the Contract A section of the ICC from I-370 to east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue). Contract A, which is 45 percent complete, is scheduled to open late 2010/early 2011.

The $475 million Contract A was awarded to Intercounty Constructors, a Joint Venture consisting of Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA, Corman Construction of Annapolis Junction, MD and G.A & F.C. Wagman of York, PA. For more information about the project, citizens may call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020 or visit the website at www.iccproject.com .

Concrete barriers, temporary crash cushions, barrels, temporary traffic signs and variable message boards will alert and guide motorists through the work zone. SHA reminds motorists to Choose Safety for Life and “Think Orange” as they drive through the work zone, reduce speeds and be attentive.
