Single and Double-lane Closures to Begin Sunday Night, February, 15 at 7 p.m.; Total Weekend Closure of US 50 Business to Occur Mid to Late March

(February 12, 2009) – Later this week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration’s (SHA) will begin repairs to the US 50 Business Drawbridge over the Wicomico River in downtown Salisbury. Beginning this Sunday night, there will be single and double lane closures along East and Westbound US 50 Business at the drawbridge, weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. No work is permitted on Friday or Saturday evenings.

Beginning Sunday, February 15, crews will work on the eastbound side of US 50 Business with single and double-lane closures Sunday through Thursday nights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for up to two weeks. Crews will then work on the westbound side of US 50 Business for up to two weeks.

In mid to late March, all lanes in both directions along US 50 Business will be closed for an entire weekend, though the specific dates are not known. SHA will provide at least 10 days advanced notice to media and motorists prior to the weekend closure. Additional nighttime single and double-lane closures will be necessary after the weekend closure in mid to late March.

The nighttime lane closures and total closure are necessary for bridge crews to make repairs to the drawbridge. The $500,000 project will be done by Covington Machine and Welding. SHA and the contractor appreciate your patience during the project and advise motorists to plan for extra travel time through the work zone. For more information about SHA projects along US 50 Business or other State-maintained highways within Wicomico County, citizens may contact SHA’s District One Office at 410-677-4000 or toll free at 1-800-825-4742.
