(October 11, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists in southern Frederick County that an ongoing project to improve the intersection of US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) and Mountville Road will require flagging on US 15 over the next several weeks. Weather permitting, the project will be complete by mid-November.

The project includes widening a quarter-mile of US 15, for about 700 feet on either side of the Mountville Road intersection, to add separate right-turn lanes on both northbound and southbound US 15 at Mountville Road. When complete, US 15 will have designated left-turn, through, and right-turn lanes at both the north and south legs of the intersection, which will significantly improve intersection operations.

Motorists should anticipate flagging on US 15 in the area of Mountville Road weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through mid-November. In addition, flagging is permitted any time on Saturday, October 13, so motorists should expect delays.

SHA’s contractor for the project is CJ Miller Inc. of Hampstead. Anyone with questions about operations on US 15 or other numbered State routes in Frederick County may call SHA’s District 7 office at 301-624-8100 or email SHADistrict7@sha.state.md.us.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
