(March 15, 2012) - The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is alerting those who travel on MD 355 (Rockville Pike) in Bethesda of preliminary utility and pole relocation work beginning tomorrow Friday, March 16. Weather permitting, work is expected to be complete by mid-May.

SHA will periodically close the right lane of southbound MD 355 (Rockville Pike) between Cedar Lane and North Drive weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Work includes removing and delivering utility poles and wiring relocation along MD 355.  Those who have questions about potential electricity interruptions related to the work may call PEPCO 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-877-737-2662.

Sidewalk access along MD 355 will be affected.  Pedestrians should be aware of signage and barriers in and around work areas.  The preliminary work is in advance of the $9 million Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) advanced utility breakout improvement project in Bethesda. The work is being performed by PEPCO.

Drivers will see signs alerting them to the lane closure beginning tomorrow. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone.
