(March 15, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface five miles of MD 231 (Hallowing Point Road) in Calvert County beginning this Sunday night, March 18.  Work includes milling, patching, resurfacing and restriping MD 231 from the Charles County line at the Patuxent River to Mason Road just west of Prince Frederick.

Work will take place Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  During these hours, flagging operations may occur and reduce travel to one lane.  Weather permitting, all work is expected to be complete in June.

The $2.8 million project will improve ride quality and safety and increase visibility.  This project is part of a $4.3 million areawide resurfacing contract awarded to Bardon/Aggregate Industries of Greenbelt. 

On average, more than 15,000 vehicles travel this stretch of MD 231 each day.  As crews strive to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.
