(March 16, 2012) – Drivers who live, work and travel in Ocean City will soon see a newly-paved one-mile section of southbound MD 528 (Coastal Highway) from 9th Street to 26th Street.  While weather dependent, the State Highway Administration (SHA) resurfacing project begins Monday, March 19 and is expected to be completed in eight weeks.

This routine roadway maintenance will address repairs resulting from recently-completed sewer line work by the Town of Ocean City.  The project includes milling, patching, and resurfacing two inches of asphalt and restriping the pavement.  The $396,000 resurfacing contract was awarded to George & Lynch, Inc., of Dover, DE.

Motorists should expect double-lane closures during work hours, weekdays from sunrise to sunset.  During these hours, flagging operations may occur and reduce travel to one lane.  SHA crews also will use variable message signs, traffic cones and barrels to help direct traffic through the work zone. While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving.  Safer work zones. For everyone.
