(November 21, 2011) – The opening of the US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) and MD 304 (Ruthsburg Road) “J-turns” is postponed until Monday, November 28, weather permitting, the State Highway Administration (SHA) announced today.

Inclement weather and a rainy forecast up to the Thanksgiving holiday have interrupted the pavement marking painting, which is the final task to be completed before the “J-turns” can be opened to traffic.

Weather permitting, the pavement markings will be painted on November 28.  After the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, work is expected to begin on the concrete islands in the median intersection and on MD 304 east and west.

Work on the project will be conducted Monday through Fridays between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the median at the intersection.  Crews will use variable message signs, cones and barrels together with a flagging operation directing single lane closures.  The contract for the “J-Turns” and the intersection modifications was awarded to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown for approximately $1.3 million.
