Drivers can Expect Overnight Triple-Lane Closures Wednesday and Thursday
(June 9, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will continue the removal of a temporary median barrier and installation of a concrete barrier on I-495 (The Capital Beltway) between Cabin John Parkway (Exit 39) and the American Legion Bridge on Wednesday, June 10. The work will be complete by Thursday, June 11, weather permitting.
The work will be performed nightly 9 p.m.-5 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers can expect triple-lane closures in both directions on I-495 during work. Closing three travel lanes will provide a safe buffer to enhance protection of road workers.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Lane Construction Corp. of Charolette, NC, will use cones, barrels, and arrow boards to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is aware that lane closures are inconvenient but are necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance. For a list of all major State Highway Administration projects, go to Project Portal, or visit the homepage at
