Temporary Traffic Signal to be Installed on April 6 to Alternate Traffic

(April 1, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a slope stabilization project in Allegany County on MD 135 (Pratt Street/Maryland Highway) between Grant Street and the Garrett County line in the Town of Luke. This project will begin as soon as Monday, April 6 and should be completed mid-fall, weather permitting.

Beginning on Monday at 7 a.m., drivers can expect a flagging operation to enable crews to install of a temporary traffic signal on MD 135 that will eventually alternate traffic through the work zone 24 hours per day. The temporary traffic signal will be in place throughout the duration of the project.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor for the project, First Fruits of Ridgeley, WV., will use message boards, signs and barrels to navigate motorists through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
