(March 30, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to resurface MD 109 (Beallsville Road) between MD 28 (Darnestown Road) and Barnesville Road in Dickerson starting Monday, April 6. The project is expected to be complete by late May, weather permitting.
This project will require several sections of MD 109 to be closed and detoured at night in phases due to the narrow nature of the road and numerous overhead utilities. Local posted detours will be in effect for each brief closure. The total temporary closures will only occur Sundays through Friday mornings from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Motorists traveling during the work hours should plan on extra driving time.
The temporary closure phases are as follows:
Phase I: MD 109 closed between Barnesville Road and Sellman Road
Phase II: MD 109 closed between Sellman Road and Big Woods Road
Phase III: MD 109 closed between Big Woods Road and MD 28
Crews will mill, pave and stripe the 3.6-mile section of MD 109. The State Highway Administration’s Contractor Allan Myers, of Fallston, Maryland, will use variable electronic message signs, cones, and barrels to guide drivers safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is
Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
