Drivers Should Plan Extra Travel Time During Repair Work
(March 30, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to repair a damaged drainage system on Dower House Road at MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) in Upper Marlboro. Dower House Road will be closed and detoured from April 2 through April 17.
The work includes replacing a damaged underground drainage pipe and storm drain system. Drivers on Dower House Road will be detoured to a right turn onto Marlboro Pike to MD 223 (Woodyard Road) and back to northbound MD 4. Additionally, there will be a left turn restriction from northbound MD 4 to Dower House Road.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, AB Construction Inc. of Laurel, will use concrete barriers, electronic message signs, cones, and barrels to guide drivers safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
