(September 26, 2011) – Drivers traveling in Caroline County will soon travel on a newly-paved one-mile section of MD 404 from Holly Road to MD 404 Business.  The State Highway Administration (SHA) resurfacing project began last week and will be complete by mid-October.

The $1 million project was awarded to David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown and includes traffic barrier upgrades, permanent line stripping and raised pavement markers.  Tuesdays through Thursdays, work starts at 7 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.  SHA crews will use variable message signs, cones and barrels together with a flagging operation during the work.

Due to the high volumes of weekend traffic, work is restricted to not begin before Noon on Mondays and will end by Noon each Friday. Drivers should allow extra travel time due to the average daily traffic volume along MD 404.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Saver driving and safer work zones benefit everyone.
