(August 22, 2011) – Tomorrow night, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift traffic on New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650) to allow for continued construction at the intersection with the Intercounty Connector (ICC).  On Tuesday evening, August 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound lanes of MD 650 will shift traffic onto the newly constructed bridge. Variable message signs will advise motorists of the new traffic pattern.

During the shift, single lane closures are expected and motorists should anticipate minor delays. Two travel lanes in each direction will be maintained during peak travel times, as well as pedestrian access along relocated walkways.

Maryland now features FREE 511 traveler information! Call 511 or 1-855-GOMD511 or visit: www.md511.org for current travel information. Sign up to personalize travel route information through MY511 on the website. Remember to use 511 safely - Maryland law restricts hand-held mobile phone use and texting while driving.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.

For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach Staff at 1-866-462-0020, or visit the ICC project web site at www.iccproject.com.
