(August 18, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is temporarily closing and detouring the ramps from northbound and southbound I-95 to the Inner Loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) between 11 p.m. Sunday, August 21 and 5 a.m. Monday, August 22.

Overnight travelers on I-95 going to westbound I-695 (Inner Loop) will be diverted to eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) past I-695 Exit 10, US 1 to I-695 exit 9, Hollins Ferry Road.  Travelers will use the Hollins Ferry Road interchange back to westbound I-695.

The temporary ramp closures and detours are part of SHA’s project to widen and reconfigure the I-95 ramps to westbound I-695 in southwestern Baltimore County.  In case of inclement weather, overnight ramp closures and detours will take place on the next possible weeknight.  SHA advises motorists traveling from I-95 to I-695 west of Baltimore to plan ahead for extra travel time.

Motorists may also call Maryland’s new 511 free travel information service or visit www.md511.org  for current travel information. The State’s contractor for the project is Pessoa Construction, Inc. of Fairmount Heights, Maryland.  The project will be completed in late-September, weather permitting.  Citizens with questions about this project may contact SHA’s District 4 Office Construction Division in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367, or by e-mail at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
