(August 12, 2011) – On Thursday, August 18, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin work to permanently close MD 223 (Floral Park Road) where it meets Livingston Road in Piscataway, Prince George’s County.  SHA is closing access from MD 223 to Livingston Road to improve safety and alleviate recurring congestion, especially during peak periods of travel.

Traffic will now use Piscataway Road to Livingston Road, which is slighter wider and has bicycle compatible lanes. The intersection at Piscataway Road and Livingston Road is a signalized intersection with crosswalks, which will improve safety for all highway users. To access Livingston Road, residents of Piscataway Village will now use Piscataway Road to Livingston Road.  The distance is essentially the same as previous MD 223 access to Livingston Road.

Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on MD 223, or other state numbered routes in Prince George’s County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll free at 1-800-749-0737.
