(August 11, 2011) – This afternoon at 3 p.m. SHA is closing the right lane of eastbound I-70 between MD 85 and South Street in Frederick.  The closure will allow crews to stabilize the shoulder by filling a sinkhole with cement and rocks.  SHA engineers and geologists determined that the sinkhole must be filled to avoid impacts to travel lanes on I-70.

Drivers are encouraged to use the I-70/MD 85 interchange to East Street to MD 144 (Patrick Street) to reach I-70 and avoid the area.  SHA hopes to have the project completed prior to the Friday morning commute.
