(July 18, 2011) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the westbound I-70 ramp to MD 66 (Mapleville Road) on Tuesday night, July 19.  The temporary closure is part of SHA’s $3.7 million project to resurface I-70 between the Frederick County line and MD 66 in Washington County.

SHA will close the ramp starting at midnight until 6 a.m. Wednesday July 20, weather permitting.  During the closure motorists on westbound I-70 will be detoured to Exit 32 (US 40 - Dual Highway) to eastbound I-70 back to MD 66.

Customers who have questions about traffic operations on I-70, MD 66 or other State numbered routes in Washington County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.

Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
