(July 12, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a roadway patching project on Monday, July 18 along three miles of US 219 (3rd Street/Garrett Highway) between Builders Way and East Crook Street in Oakland, Garrett County.  The $150,000 project should be complete by early August, weather permitting.

The project was originally scheduled to begin Monday, July 11 but the contractor is completing work on other projects.

Crews may need to close one lane on northbound and southbound US 219 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Flagpersons, barrels and temporary signs will guide motorists through the work zone.  Approximately 14,200 vehicles travel along this section of US 219 each day.  Motorists should expect delays.

SHA awarded the contract to Keystone Lime, Inc. of Pennsylvania.  Those who have questions about traffic operations along US 219 or other State numbered routes in Garrett County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.    Motorists may also follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.

Construction season is in full swing with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only hours.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
